The Emmaus Ministry's mission at St. Edward is to reach out to serve the needs of those in our parish community. The ministries are listed below. Please contact our coordinators if you need any of these services or if you wish to volunteer to help in any of our ministries.
Has it been some time since you have had the opportunity to receive Holy Communion? The Emmaus Ministry has volunteers who will bring Holy Communion to your home. Just make a phone call (see below) and a volunteer will contact you. Usually a particular volunteer will become “your” volunteer and you will have the opportunity to get to know one another. There is nothing you have to do to prepare for Holy Communion in your home. You decide whether it will be a brief event or if you want some time to socialize. You may set up an appointment, and perhaps on that day, you may not be feeling well or you have an appointment—just call your volunteer and cancel/reschedule. It is as easy as that. We are always very flexible and accommodating. Contact the parish office.
We coordinate volunteers who provide rides for parishioners to Church and other parish events. You may no longer feel comfortable driving at night or you may need temporary help for medical or other reasons. We have volunteers standing by to assist you. Just make the phone call (see below) and a volunteer will contact you. You may make a regularly scheduled appointment for Sunday Mass or just an occasional request to attend a special program such as a Lenten Retreat or Memorial Mass. If you've scheduled a ride, but don't feel up to getting out to mass that day, just call your volunteer and cancel. We sometimes hear that some of you feel you would be “putting someone out” by asking for a ride. This is never the case. All of our volunteers feel it is a privilege to be able to help. Please contact us if you need a ride or if you are able to volunteer to drive. Very flexible. Contact: Terry Davis 508-660-8986: Joan Kiessling 508-359-6948
We are a group of volunteers who conduct a Communion Service each Wednesday morning and every other Sunday morning at the Thomas Upham House nursing home in Medfield. We offer the residents an opportunity to reflect on Scripture, receive Communion, listen to music and feel the fellowship of our shared Catholic faith. It is an enriching time for both the residents and volunteers as we share this special time and get to know one another. For those residents unable to make the service, we also offer Communion in the room, giving us the opportunity to visit with these residents as well. On Wednesdays, after the Communion Service, we run a spirited session of word games with the residents. If you are interested in helping with the Communion Services, please contact Cathy Sullivan 508-359-6778.
We are responsible for organizing and hosting receptions after special liturgies, encouraging the parish community to gather. These liturgies include the Memorial Liturgy which takes place in November for the families that have lost loved ones in the past year, and the beautiful reception that follows the Easter Vigil. The Reception Ministry also offers the opportunity for a reception at the church after the Funeral Liturgy of a loved one. Working with the family, we will assist with ordering the food desired, set up for the reception, serve the guests and clean up when the reception is over. In addition, the Reception Ministry will sometimes host “Linger Longer” gatherings after designated liturgies. These receptions allow parishioners to enjoy a cup of coffee and mingle for a bit to get to know one another. This is a wonderful way to meet people at St. Edward, especially if you are new to our Parish. Please contact us if you need more information or would like to volunteer.
