Holy Orders is the Sacrament by which bishops, priests and deacons are ordained and receive the power and grace to perform their sacred duties. The sacred rite by which Holy Orders are conferred is called ordination. The Apostles were ordained by Jesus himself at the Last Supper so that others could share in his priesthood. This Sacrament is administered through the laying on of hands by the bishop. Ordained clergy are configured to Christ to share in his power and authority through preaching, teaching, and celebrating the Sacraments.
Vocations to the diaconate, priesthood, and religious life are very special invitations by God to give oneself more fully to serving God and the Church. If you would like to learn more about the priesthood or diaconate, please contact a priest or deacon through the parish office of St. Jude or St. Edward.
